Circle Crop Image Online
Need a circular profile picture? Our free tool makes it easy to crop images into perfect circles for social media, forums, and apps.
How Circle Cropping Works
Most platforms display profile pictures as circles, but they actually store square images. The key is to crop your photo to a 1:1 square ratio with the subject centered.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Upload Your Photo
Choose a photo where your face (or logo) is clearly visible. Portrait orientation works best for profile pictures.
2. Select 1:1 Aspect Ratio
Click the 1:1 button in the aspect ratio options. This creates a perfect square crop that will display as a circle.
3. Position Your Subject
Move the crop box so your subject is centered:
- For faces: Center the eyes in the upper third
- For logos: Center the entire logo with equal padding
4. Apply and Export
Click Apply Crop, then export as PNG or JPG.
Platform-Specific Sizes
Different platforms have different recommended sizes:
| Platform | Recommended Size |
|---|
| 320 x 320 px | |
|---|---|
| Twitter/X | 400 x 400 px |
| 170 x 170 px | |
| 400 x 400 px | |
| Discord | 128 x 128 px |
| Slack | 512 x 512 px |
Tips for Great Profile Pictures
- 1. Good lighting - Natural light or soft artificial light works best
- 2. Simple background - Avoid busy backgrounds that distract
- 3. High resolution - Start with the largest image possible
- 4. Face forward - Direct eye contact is most engaging
- 5. Leave margin - Don't crop too tight; leave some space around edges
Why PNG for Profile Pictures?
Use PNG format when:
- Your image has text or logos
- You need transparency
- Quality is more important than file size
Use JPG format when:
- It's a photograph
- File size needs to be small
- No transparency needed
